Jim was a chaplain's assistant at the 24th, 1970 - 71. He says, "A powerful experience. I had the opportunity to meet and work with some of the finest people I have ever met while there.
I particularly enjoyed bringing nurses to local orphanages as part of the unit's civic action program.

"Hospital staff were good at
scrounging supplies for local orphanages, schools and clinics. Walter
Ellerby, chaplain's assistant, helps unload mattresses at a girls
school. The mattresses were made surplus when a nearby unit rotated
