Cindy Mason wanted to go to The Bob Hope Christmas Show.
It was held on
Long Binh, but far from the 24th. A friend and I hitched a ride
across post after getting off of night shift. We didn't know how
long it would take us to get there. Then we sat in the hot sun in the
bleachers, and dozed. At about 4 o'clock we watched a bus arrive
from the 24th, and patients and staff members were led to nearly front
row seats. The show started a couple of hours later, and it was
wonderful, and we could almost see it. Connie Stevens was
wearing a red dress.
Note the baby blue pajama-clad patients in the crowd up near the
stage.
Chatting with guys around them, Cindy discovered the guy to her right
was from Ohio too, in fact, he went to Baldwin-Wallace College with
Cindy's cousin, Betty Wirt. Cindy will ask her cousin, Betty (Wirt)
Wolfe, to identify him.
Contrast this Bob Hope Christmas Show with
the one attended by Ken Bowen in
1967.
