1 April

According to the Daily Staff Journal or Duty Officer's Log - DD1594, this date, 

0900  ABC News correspondent Craig Spence and two cameramen spent the entire day at the hospital.  Mr. Spence is doing a documentary about surgical care of the wounded soldier and will follow a wounded soldier from the chopper pad through the emergency room, Pre-op and Recovery to the Operating Room.  Mr. Spence will also film the doctors and operating room personnel at work in the operating room.

2 April

According to the Daily Staff Journal or Duty Officer's Log - DD1594, this date, 

1200  Mr. Prestler, Chief and his staff of PA&E along with the Commanding Officer, Executive Officer and Medical Supply Officer attended a dinner .... discussing a solution to our water problem.

1945  The Jewish Seder Observance was held ... on Ward #16.  The Commanding Officer and Executive Officer attended.

1000  There was an award ceremony held in the hospital's HQ honoring five (5) individuals.

4 April

According to the Daily Staff Journal or Duty Officer's Log - DD1594, this date, 

1300  Special Services had a group called "The New Generation" composed of three GI folk singers.  They went through the wards singing for the patients.

6 April

According to the Daily Staff Journal or Duty Officer's Log - DD1594, this date, 

1610  Brigadier General Verne H. Bowers visited the hospital and was given an orientation and taken on a tour of the hospital by COL Hammon.  He is the Chief of Staff of Personnel Administration at USARV HQS.

7 April

According to the Daily Staff Journal or Duty Officer's Log - DD1594, this date, 

1055  Brigadier General Hamrick, Chief, Medical Service Corps, visited the hospital ... and was given a briefing in the Commanding Officer's office.  After the briefing there was a conference in the Officer's Club  All the MSC's from the 24th and the 74th attended.

8 April

According to the Daily Staff Journal or Duty Officer's Log - DD1594, this date, 

1040  The hospital was visited by Major General John W. Kane, LG, 77th ARCOM.  He was surveying all the reserve units in Vietnam.

10 April

According to the Daily Staff Journal or Duty Officer's Log - DD1594, this date, 

0800  Hospital staff met with RMK (Contractors for the Air Conditioning Project) in the chapel.  The following topics were discussed:
1.  Beginning Date - RMK was unable to predict the date work would begin but determined that once it did the project would be completed in three (3) months.
2.  Pre-op / Post-op - Commanding Officer requested that construction in part would be confined to one half of the building at a time so that there would be no interruption  in the treatment of the casualties.
3.  Surgery - Construction to be confined to one surgical suite at a time.  Floors to be repaired at that time.
4.  Post-op - Sufficient notice needed to evacuate patients.
5.  Filtering System - Requested RMK to check filtering system to determine if it is capable of filtering out contaminants.
6.  Tour of construction sites - RMK representatives taken on a tour of Ward #1, Surgery, Post-op, Ward #2 and nurses (sic)

1800  Unannounced interruption in water supply.  PA&E emergency crew notified.  5,000 gallons of water into the tank by fire department.  Tank filled by 0200 11 April.  Source of problem - Pump operator arbitrarily shut the pump down for repairs to chlorinator.  Proposed notify hospital personnel (prior) to turning off the pump for any reason..

1100  2LT Addison, Christina M., ANC, was promoted to 1LT by LTG Frank T. Mildren, Deputy commander at USARV.  The ceremony was held in the hospital HQ.

0800  There was a power outage from 0800 - 1200...

1000  There was an MSC meeting held here at the hospital's mess hall.

1000  The hospital was visited by COL Unger, LTC Fleming, and LTC Watson belonging to the Australian Army.

1000 The hospital's new Snack Stand opened up at 1000 hours.  The menu consists of hot and cold food, beverages of any kind, pastries.  It operates seven days a week for the hospital personnel and patients.

1430  Three lovely girls accompanied the Skip Young Show through the hospital to talk with our patients.

Fiscal year 1969 Air conditioning:  Design is complete.  MACV has issued the Notice to Proceed to OICC and RMK-BRJ has met with hospital staff to outline the work schedule.

According to the Daily Staff Journal or Duty Officer's Log - DD1594, this date, 

Red Cross Building"  Project has been approved by USARV.  Due to the relatively low priority of project, consideration of funding by MACV is not expected until May 1969.

0900  The new Commanding Officer of the 58th Medical Battalion visited our hospital...LTC Stephen Goodman, Medical Corps, received a briefing and a tour of the professional areas at the time.

1430  The 68th Medical Group's old Commanding Officer and the new Commanding officer of the Group visited the hospital for a briefing.  COL Richard B. Austin III, the old commander and the new commander, COL Thomas visited with the Commander of the 24th Evacuation Hospital.
